MANILA, Philippines — Two lawmakers have called out ‘political sectors’ who are trying to instill divisiveness in the country by making up stories against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his allies.According to Camarines Sur LRay Villafuerte, the armed conflict in Israel could have an effect on the country, which should prompt government officials and different sectors to fully prepare for this — and not disrupt the unity in the administration. “Oil prices have begun to spike as a result of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The government needs to be prepared for the possible fallout resulting from this. The last thing we need right now is for crass, divisive politics distracting us from the possible problems that could arise from this brewing crisis,” Villafuerte said in a statement. “Instead of making up stories, let us help each other. We would all be affected here,” he added. Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel meanwhile, in a separate statement, said that the united front in the government is a rare opportunity that officials must take advantage of to ensure growth and stability — instead of sowing intrigue and trying to pit President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte against each other. “All sectors should take advantage of this rare opportunity instead of trying to drive a wedge between President Bongbong Marcos and VP Sara Duterte who have succeeded in working together in bringing back the nation on the path of robust economic growth,” Pimentel said. “Let us prioritize our country first before our political interests. The elections are still far, let us look at the welfare of our fellow Filipinos first,” he added. gsg
