MANILA, Philippines—As the world celebrates World Mental Health Month this October, Brahma Kumaris Philippines (BKPH) tapped renowned author and teacher Denise Lawrence to lead its ‘Caring for the Mind’ seminar on Oct. 17 at the Gateway Gallery, Gateway Tower in Araneta Center, Quezon City The seminar, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., will feature Lawrence, who has 50 years of experience as teacher of Raja Yoga meditation and spiritual knowledge. The seminar will tackle the art of caring for the mind, which BKPH said was “our basic spiritual and human rights.” She is set to travel around the country to promote meditation. BKPH also underscored the importance of having a healthy and clean mind, saying it acts as our “best friend supporting us as we steer through our own life direction amidst many challenges.” Aside from being an author and teacher, Lawrence also has a background in journalism and worked for TV and Radio News programs at the BBC and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1974, she began her study and practice of Raja Yoga meditation at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in London and became a full-time dedicated teacher and practitioner of Raja Yoga meditation and the spiritual study of the knowledge of the Bhagwad Gita with the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. In addition, Lawrence has a special interest in human rights, not only from the social and political angle but also from the angle of empowering individuals to understand and claim their rights in all sectors of life. She also focuses on women’s rights from the perspective of self-empowerment, self-recognition and reclaiming a lost sense of value from within. Lawrence’s book entitled Sciamachy, a Greek word for fighting your shadow, was published in India in 2016 and was translated to German in 2020. She also authored 10 volumes of a Post Graduate Diploma of Education in Values and Spirituality which is currently being taught in several universities in India and Malaysia. Denise has lived in Europe, North America, India, and traveled globally giving lectures, seminars etc. on matters of human rights from the angle of spirituality. She also tackles various topics on her YouTube channel (Denise Lawrence), particularly about spiritual knowledge and meditation practice. Namayan Digital, Inc is helping in promoting the advocacy of Brahma Kumaris PH. The October 17 seminar is free for everyone.
