MANILA, Philippines — Santa Rosa City, Laguna Lone District Rep. Dan Fernandez assured the public that the House of Representatives will remain dedicated to its duties to serve the people despite the “seeming political noise” surrounding the confidential funds. In a statement on Sunday, Fernandez also said that the lower house will not allow those noises to “divert our attention from the work that needs to be done.” “The House of Representatives is resolute in its determination to serve the Filipino people. We will not be deterred by distractions or intimidation. We recognize our responsibility to the nation, and we will continue to work diligently, regardless of the circumstances,” said Fernandez. The lower chamber recently decided to reallocate P1.23 billion worth of confidential funds from certain government institutions to agencies involved in the country’s security. Fernandez noted that one of the biggest criticisms that the House received was from former President Rodrigo Duterte, who “vehemently rebuked” the House after his daughter, Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary o Sara Duterte lost P650 million in 2024 confidential funds. The said budget was requested for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd). This criticism occurred even after the younger Duterte already said that the OVP and DepEd would survive without the requested confidential funds, the lawmaker added. In the statement, Fernandez also highlighted the importance of reallocating the funds to the country’s security. “This step underscores our unwavering commitment to reinforcing the programs of the Marcos administration for the improvement of the lives of Filipinos,” he said. “Our intent is to ensure that these funds contribute effectively to the well-being of our citizens and the advancement of the nation’s interests,” he added, noting that the House will make sure that the funds contribute to the improvement of the nation.
