MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday instructed soldiers in the Presidential Security Group (PSG) to ensure the safety of all Filipinos. Marcos said this at the PSG change of command ceremony in Malacañang Park in Manila. Brigadier General Jesus Nelson Morales assumed the role of PSG Commander. Morales replaces Brigadier General Ramon Zagala, who will become the Commander of the Civil Relations Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. “I trust that you will fully support General Morales, just as you did General Zagala, with your hallmark integrity, excellence, and service,” Marcos said in his speech to PSG troops. “Together, let us continue to perform our duties to the best of our ability,” he remarked. “Let us remain steadfast in safeguarding our country so that we can fulfill our sworn duty of provisioning a peaceful and secure life for every Filipino,” he said. Marcos thanked Zagala for his service, saying that he had successfully ensured the safety of the President and the First Family. “You have also maintained and guarded the PCG’s distinction as one of the best protectors of the land, worthy to protect and preserve the presidency as a stern and reliable institution,” the Commander in Chief told Zagala. “With the unified efforts of the Office of the President and PSG, you have successfully provided security to nearly 500 presidential events, both domestic and international engagements,” he said. Meanwhile, the President told Morales he looked forward to working with him. “I am confident with your training, experience, and overall competence, the PSG will continue to fulfill its role of protecting this institution,” Marcos told the new PSG commander.
