MANILA, Philippines — A coalition of mayors from various parts of the country has vowed to join the battle against corruption, as well as in rebranding more innovative governance. In a meeting of the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG), co-convenor and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that the coalition will collaborate with other associations and civil organizations to help them in their fight against corruption. “Kailangan namin ng tulong (We need help) and that’s why we are collaborating closely with associations, CSOs [civil society organizations] who are willing to help us,” Magalong said on Wednesday. M4GG will also be working with the national government and other agencies to make sure that public officials are held more transparent and accountable for their actions, Magalong added. “Hindi kami (We are not the) opposition; we are just an advocate, a movement [for good governance],” Magalong said. M4GG was launched in August and has been supported by 157 mayors across the country. Aside from Magalong, its other co-convenors include Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Isabela City, Basilan Mayor Sitti Djalia Hataman, Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo, Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, and Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte Mayor Rommel Arnado.
