MANILA, Philippines — The chances of a typhoon developing in and outside the Philippine area of responsibility until Sunday are low, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), there are also no weather disturbances observed within the country’s boundaries and near the Pacific Ocean. “Base sa mga pinaka-huling datos maliit pa ‘ung tiyansa magkaroon tayo ng bagyo sa mga susunod na araw hanggang weekend,” said state weather specialist Obet Badrina. (Based on the latest data, there is little chance of a typhoon in the next few days until the weekend.) However, northern Luzon, particularly in Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, will continue to see cloudy skies with rains caused by the northeasterly wind flow throughout the day. The northeasterly windflow also signifies that the country is slowly transitioning to northeast monsoon season, locally known as the “amihan,” Pagasa said. The state weather bureau added that it may declare the start of the amihan season within the next few days or weeks. “Kung matatandaan po ninyo last year, taong 2022, nagsimula po ‘yung amihan season bandang October 20, so posible po sa mga susunod na araw o linggo ay ide-deklara na natin dito sa Pagasa ‘yung pagsisimula ng amihan,” said Badrina. (If you remember, last year, year 2022, the amihan season started around October 20, so it is possible that in the next few days or weeks, we will declare here in Pagasa the start of the amihan.) Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, may expect generally fair weather conditions. Pagasa said that isolated rain showers brought by localized thunderstorms may still be experienced, but they would not last more than an hour.
