MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday witnessed the signing of the renewed United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). The new agreement, valid from 2024 to 2028, signifies the Philippines’ commitment to working with the UN for sustainable development. “Our new Cooperation Framework covers the period of 2024 to 2028, which coincides with the timeline of this administration, as it is oriented to support Philippine government policies and priorities embodied in the eight-point socio-economic agenda, the Philippine development plan and Ambisyon Natin,” said Marcos in his speech in Malacañang. The UNSDCF was signed by Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, National Economic and Development Authority chief Arsenio Balisacan, and UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines Gustavo González. As a founding member of the UN, Marcos said that the Philippines supports the international body’s bid for lasting peace and progress. “Our advocacies in the Indo-Pacific and in the global arena for the rule of law and a peaceful settlement of disputes also provide opportunities for a more substantive engagement with the United Nations,” said Marcos.
