MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that the databases of its Forensic Group are secure in light of the recent hacking cases of some government sites. “As of press time, we can confidently state that all databases of the PNP Forensic Group, including DNA CODIS, IBIS, and AFIS, remain secure and unaffected by any breach,” the PNP said in a statement Friday. The PNP likewise said that its Forensic Group is taking steps to investigate the incident. “Upon learning about this issue, we immediately activated our Data Breach Response Team to swiftly address the matter. The Forensic Group is working closely with the PNP ITMS [Information Technology Management Service] and Anti-Cybercrime Group to ensure that this issue is given the utmost attention it deserves,” it added. The PNP also added that a minor incident was mistaken for a hack in April 2023, where an applicant in an unmentioned location did not log out of their account. In recent days, the databases of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and the Philippine Statistics Authority were subjects of cyberattacks. Probes have also been launched to identify the suspects behind these incidents.
