MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has recorded 18 election-related incidents across the country as of 12:00 a.m., October 20. Among these were 12 shooting incidents, two kidnapping cases, and one each of grave threats, indiscriminate firing, a violation of the gun ban, and an armed encounter. Most election-related violence came from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region with four incidents, followed by Region 8 – Eastern Visayas and Region 10 – Northern Mindanao at three cases each. Out of the 18 cases, seven were referred to the prosecutor’s office, eight are under investigation, one was filed in court, and two refused to file cases. On the other hand, there are an additional 13 recorded suspected election-related incidents; there were two each of shooting, physical injury, assault, violations of gun ban, mauling, and one each of harassment, stabbing, and armed encounter. The most came from Region 6 – Western Visayas with three cases, followed by Region 8 with two cases. Seven of these cases are under investigation. Two were referred to the prosecutor’s office, two were amicably settled, one was filed in court, and one was resolved. The PNP also recorded 66 incidents of non-election-related incidents, which ranged from shootings, assaults, robbery, among others.
