MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared October 10 to 16 of every year as “Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa” to increase public awareness of barangay officials’ role in maintaining peace and order in the community. Marcos made the declaration through Proclamation No. 358, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on October 9, but made public on Wednesday. “There is a need to increase public awareness on the functions of the Lupong Tagapamayapa, and recognize the valuable contributions of the members thereof in the preservation and maintenance of peace and order in barangays,” Marcos said in Proclamation No. 358. According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), “Lupong Tagapamayapa” is a body exercising administrative supervision on matters relevant to the amicable settlement of barangay disputes. Under the proclamation, the Department of the Interior and Local Government is tasked to take the lead in promoting the observance of the Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa and identify events, projects, and activities that will mark the yearly celebration. “All other agencies and instrumentalities of the National Government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, government financial institutions, and state universities and colleges, are hereby enjoined, and all local government units, non-government organizations, as well as the private sector, are hereby encouraged, to actively participate and render the necessary support and assistance to the DILG for the effective implementation of this Proclamation,” the proclamation read.
