At 75,000, record number of bike riders lost lives in 2022


Two-wheeler deaths in India increased by nearly 8% in 2022, accounting for 44% of total road fatalities. Road safety experts are urging for solutions to address the safety concerns of vulnerable road users, particularly pedestrians. Two-wheelers were responsible for a quarter of all fatalities and claimed the most pedestrian lives. Tamil Nadu had the highest number of two-wheeler deaths and pedestrian deaths. There is a need for greater focus on serious injuries and achieving a 50% reduction in road deaths by 2030.
