China’s copper gambit for national decarbonisation

Copper has a very big role in energy, especially renewable energy, generation, storage and transmission and thus in decarbonisation. Copper’s “conductive qualities make it a key component of low-emissions power production technologies like solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, wind turbines, and batteries, in addition to its widespread use in the energy transmission and distribution grids,” says a report by the International Energy Agency. Similar to Lithium China is dominating the world in copper production and consumption. With its mineral and metal power China will have a controlling say in the global decarbonisation and net zero efforts.
