Group wants alleged corruption in LTFRB thoroughly probed

MANILA, Philippines — A non-government organization (NGO) has called for a more thorough investigation of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) amid allegations of corruption within the agency. According to NGO Seguridad Kontra Katiwalian at Abuso (SEKYU) in a statement Tuesday, a probe must be launched on officials in the LTFRB who are implicated in the alleged “lagayan” system in the agency. “In this case, the individuals who provided the bribes must also be held accountable for their covert actions, not just the recipients,” SEKYU said. On October 9, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. suspended LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III for alleged corruption. However, Jeffrey Tumbado, the whistleblower of the alleged corruption in the agency, had recanted his allegations. Tumbado did not appear at Monday’s scheduled hearing with the National Bureau of Investigation.
