LTO to sue man posing as its enforcer to extort money from motorists

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will file criminal charges against a man who allegedly posed as the agency’s enforcer to purportedly extort money from motorists in Quezon City. Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, the LTO chief, ordered the filing of charges against Jurdinito Rid Macula as he urged all victims to come forward and help in the ongoing investigation of the Quezon City Police District. Citing police reports, the LTO said on Monday that Macula was collared by authorities around 9:30 p.m. after he failed to show an identification card to a motorist he was trying to extort money from. “Macula reportedly claimed that he is an LTO enforcer assigned to the National Capital Region and flagged down the victim for allegedly using an unauthorized side mirror,” the LTO said. According to records of the LTO in the National Capital Region, Macula is not affiliated with the agency. So I am urging all our motorists to immediately inform us about any illegal activity, and I assure you of our immediate action,” Mendoza said. The suspect is under QCPD custody, facing criminal charges, including usurpation of authority. atm
