NAIA authorities nab Malaysian traveler over P25million ‘shabu’


MANILA, Philippines — A Malaysian traveler was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) after he was found carrying in his luggage suspected “shabu” or crystal meth worth more than P25 million. An initial report from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday showed that 27-year-old Mohammad Ahtsham Bin Mohammad Afzal was intercepted by the Naia-Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group on Thursday, October 12. The report said that during inspection, authorities found in his luggage two “improvised pouches made of packaging tape” containing around 3,722 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, The illegal drug’s estimated street value is P25,309,600. PDEA said Afzal, who originated in Antananarivo, Madagascar, arrived in the Philippines via an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Thursday.
