Non-metros keep up with, at times overtake, big city EV demand


The growing availability of mass-market electric vehicles (EVs), improved charging infrastructure, and lower running costs mean that non-metro markets in India are experiencing an increasing demand for EVs. Luxury manufacturers such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Volvo are seeing similar acceptance outside of India's major cities. Sales of luxury EVs have already surpassed volumes recorded in all of 2022, and overall sales of electric cars are expected to more than double to cross the 100,000 mark for the first time in 2023, spurring manufacturers from Maruti Suzuki to Hyundai and Tata Motors.
