PH Coast Guard has new commandant


Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan took the helm of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday, replacing Adm. Artemio Abu who had reached the mandatory retirement age of 56. Gavan was deputy commandant for administration before his appointment. Gavan was instrumental in training and capacity-building female coast guard personnel as radio operators called “Angels of the Sea” on board PCG vessels patrolling the West Philippine Sea.
