Valenzuela marks 400th anniversary with Oktoberfest
Valenzuela City celebrated its 400th founding anniversary and played host to Oktoberfest, a spectacular three-day beer and music festival held from Oct. 20 to Oct. 22 at the grounds of CJ Santos Street in Barangay Malinta. Sponsored by San Miguel Brewery Inc., music enthusiasts and beer aficionados flocked to the Oktoberfest, which featured musical artists and rock bands, and numerous beer stations and food concessionaires. The festival kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian, Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja and other city officials. Prior to the festival, a Battle of the Bands and Rap Contest took place, culminating in the performances of the finalists on the first day of Oktoberfest. Local talents, including rap artists and bands like Innercore and The Big Thing also performed. The second day of Oktoberfest, dubbed “Hip-hop Night,” featured special guests such as Karl Banayad, Salbakuta, Axcel of Barakojuan, Cursebox, Apekz and Yung Bawal. The winners of the rap contest were also announced. The final day was a night of rock music. Three finalists battled it out in the Battle of the Bands. The evening was also graced by renowned Filipino rock bands Siakol and Join The Club. —RUSSEL P. LORETO
